One-to-one training offers a tailored approach that focuses entirely on you and your dog. Whether you're addressing a specific behavioural issue or working on basic skills, these sessions are designed to give you the tools, confidence, and understanding you need to make progress.

To help you make the most of your session, here are a few simple but important ways to prepare.

šŸ“‹ 1. Be Clear on Your Goals

Before your session, think about what you'd like to achieve. Is your dog pulling on the lead? Struggling with recall? Barking at visitors? Even if you're not sure what's causing the behaviour, having a clear idea of the outcome you wantĀ will help us focus your training plan from the start.

🐶 2. Bring the Right Rewards

Training works best when your dog is motivated. Bring a variety of high-value treatsĀ (think chicken, cheese, or sausage) as well as lower-value ones for easier tasks. If your dog has a favourite toy, that can also be useful for play-based rewards.

šŸ‘Ÿ 3. Dress Comfortably and Be Ready to Get Involved

Your session is very much hands-on. You’ll be learning how to communicate clearly with your dog, so come dressed for the weather and ready to participate. Comfortable footwear and a treat pouch or pocket always help!

šŸ•° 4. Take Your Time — It’s Not a Race

Every dog is different. Some will pick things up quickly, others may need more time to feel safe, calm, and focused enough to learn. There’s no pressure to get everything perfect in one session. Training is a journey, and I’ll be there to guide you every step of the way.

🧠 5. Ask Questions — No Question Is Too Small

These sessions are also about empowering you. If you're unsure why we’re using a certain technique, or something doesn’t feel right, just ask. I want you to leave feeling confident, informed, and supported.

šŸ  6. Practice Makes Progress

You'll be given a personalised training plan after your session, and your dog’s learning will continue at home. Setting aside regular time to practise will help strengthen your dog’s new skills and build consistency.

šŸ’¬ 7. Stay in Touch

I’m always here if you have questions after your session. Ongoing support is part of what makes a 1-2-1 so effective, so don’t hesitate to check in or let me know how things are going.

Final Thoughts

A one-to-one session is a fantastic opportunity to make meaningful progress in a focused, supportive environment. By preparing a little beforehand and committing to practising afterwards, you’re setting yourself and your dog up for success.
